New Work: Log 70
In the Green archive we found a mention of Careby in Lincolnshire, but Green had no information on this work. So, in March 2026 John Collins set out with his daughter, Deborah Wiltshire, to visit the church, identified as St Stephen Church, Careby, Lincolnshire . The installed Work comprised Two Opus Sectile panels surrounded by glazed tiling, The subject was Musicians with an Inscription:- (from left) “COME UNTO ME FOR I AM THE BREAD OF LIFE”. But no dedication. It was loca

St John the Baptist, Corby, 1922 "DORCAS".
When we received the Virginia marketing document there were a number of new Windows/ churches on the list which did not tally with our list of Vidimus or the list of Windows in the Appendix to the Article written by Dennis and Joan Hadley using Donald Green’s research. We have written to the “new” churches asking if they have a Glasby Window. But we began to suspect that Glasby was listing Windows he had painted for Henry Holiday and Morris & Co. The Mystery of Irish Windows: Christ Church Gorey and Kilgariffe
In September 2025 Marianne Giles, a good friend of Erika, kindly visited the Library of Virginia Archive. There is a Glasby Window at St Mark Church, Log 145. From earlier research we knew there were documents relating to the Window in the Archive. In a “marketing document “ [1] discovered by Marianne we saw several pieces of work which were new for us. This document was hard to read but Erika found 2 copies of the same document in the Donald Green archive. We know that it

The Glasby Family
In the Donald Green Archive there is a lot of information on the Glasby Family which we presume he found at Henfield Museum. This was not available when we visited and wonder if it has been lost? In particular Green refers to a scrapbook created by Dulcima. Donald Green appears to have access to many notes relating to Dulcima – described as her “scrapbook”, which was in the possession of Mrs Colgate whom Green met on a visit to Henfield. We didn’t find any evidence that he me

Visit to the Donald Green Archive at Historic England, February 2026
Finally, Erika visited the Donald Green Archive at Historic England, Swindon. In total there are 39 boxes of non-digitalized and non-catalogued research. The majority of Archive is devoted to William Morris and Co. Boxes 29-36 are devoted to Glasby. Boxes 28-29 contain slides of Glasby Windows. Boxes 35-38 contain typed chronological Correspondence, outgoing from Donald Green. It is very strange that there are no "replies" in the Archive. We presume these are to be found in

Finding Lost Glasby Windows
We found 67 churches where William Glasby's work is displayed, but where we do have a vidimus. But we also have 37 numbers in the sequence for which we do have a vidimus. So, we presume the missing vidimuses are in all probability related to those 67 churches. We thought we had discovered all the existing Glasby stained glass ... but in April 2024 we received a surprise email from David Chilton who had discovered a new Window at St Mary's Abbotskerswell. David discovered our

Acknowledgements and Thanks
This was a COVID-19 lockdown project and we are acutely aware of how difficult it has been for churches to function during this time. Also Colleges, Museums and Libraries were closed and staff were working from home. We are very grateful for what were always swift and helpful replies, and for the enthusiasm and support we received as we explained our project. We were also pleased that we could give something back when the history of a particular Window was not known, or had

WINDOWS AND OPUS SECTILE PANELS
In an Appendix at the end of their Article Green et al (2008) list the known Windows designed by William Glasby. The John Collins' archive shows that Glasby designed more Windows than was known in 2008. This is because the sketches were with Diane Collins and unknown to the authors. The Collins' archive also reveals that some commissions were not taken up. Here we correlate the 2008 list with the Logs in the Collins and Henfield Museum archives. Appendix to Donald Green, Denn

William Glasby: A Life
Early Life William Glasby was born on 28 December 1863, in the Lying-in Hospital, Endell Street, St Giles, Camden. His father was William Henry, a carpet warehouse porter, and his mother was Rebecca. They lived in Waterloo Road, London. Richard Platell, who lives in Australia has carried out extensive research on the Glasby family. he writes to us in an email: "William Glasby was a nephew of my 2 nd -great grandmother, Elizabeth Sophia Glasby. The History of the Sketches
How these sketches came into the possession of John Collins is a story in itself. William Glasby died in 1941 and his work was continued by his two daughters (Barbara and Dulcima) and Danks and Blackford. Neither daughter married, nor had children. When Dulcima died in a nursing home on 22 March 1975 there were many sketches and documents found in the attic and most were destroyed. But the Vidimus were saved but there appears to be some dispute over the ownership of the
