As a result of accessing the Donald Green Archive we have discovered information on some new works by Glasby. This work is at St. John the Baptist, Knutsford, Cheshire. It is a Rectangular bronze memorial plaque. Quite unusual for Glasby. It was made in 1925 and is paced in the Chancel entrance, south side column. The Dedication reads :
“IN LOVING MEMORY OF FRANCIS HAMILTON MELLORS CBE KC OF THIS PARISH, BORN MAR 13TH 1854, DIED IN PARIS APRIL 26TH 1925,
10th SON OF THE RIGHT HONORABLE SIR JOHN MELLORS, PC, FOR
14 YEARS JUDGE OF THE COUNTY COURT MANCHESTER”.
“And the Spirit shall return unto God who gave it”.
We do not have a vidimus for this work. We originally saw the work mentioned in Donald Green, Dennis Hadley and Joan Hadley’, “The life and work of William Glasby (1863 – 1941)” in The Journal of Stained Glass, vol xxxii (2008), pp 91 – 106.
Donald Green mentions it in his archive indexing.
A pamphlet by Glasby advertising praise of his work quotes Mrs. Mellor (Donor)
“It is liked very much indeed”.
Glasby’s name and year are not shown on the work.
